Send the Bformat track to the track labelled Decoder. Set up a new 4 channel track and name it Bformat - untick the 'Master Parent send' button in i/o In the FX channel of 'Decoder' track, bring up Bruce Wiggins decoder, and set it to Octogen. Set up a new 4 channel track and name it Decoder - tick the 'Master Parent send' button in i/o Set up the hardware outputs of the master track to Motu 1-8 as 8 mono sends, one for each channel. But if you want to use a 16 channel speaker sphere for example, then just find the right decoder etc. (I'm talking here about an 8 channel horizontal speaker array. Set the master track in a new Reaper project to (for example) an 8 channel track.
(Now all your record inputs on Reaper will automatically correspond to the 64 output channels of Soundflower.) Set input device as 'Soundflower (64ch)'. In Reaper, audio preferences, tick the little box that says 'Allow use of different input and output devices' Set the outputs for this Bformat cue to 1-4 in Qlab (this should be the default setting) Now you can route the audio from Qlab via Soundflower to anywhere you want.ĭrop the Bformat file into Qlab's workspace as with any other file - it understands that it's a 4 channel track and sets up 4 outputs automatically. Set the output of Qlab to Soundflower in Qlab's audio preferences. So Soundflower is now only being used to route audio from Qlab to Reaper. Set the audio output of Soundflower to 'none' for both 2ch and 64 ch versions. Run Soundflower with Soundflowerbed (see the flower icon should appear in the menu bar on your mac)

Needs to be one of the paid for versions, as you need access to multiple outputs - more that just the stereo outputs that the free version has.ģ. If anyone wants advice on the Bformat ambisonic mixing process then just ask and I'll tell you how.ġ.

I'm assuming knowledge of how to create ambisonic Bformat mixes, and you're at the stage where you want to just fire the Bformat files from Qlab, and decode them before sending them to a speaker array. I couldn't find anything on this on the forum, or anywhere else really, so hoping this might be of use to someone out there. (The beauty of Bformat for me though is that you can decode it to anything - 5.1, 7.1, Quad, stereo, whatever you have access to in a venue. It's basically a way of using multi channel cues together with regular stereo or mono cues in Qlab. You just need to use different decoders in Reaper. This will also work for 5.1, 7.1 or whatever. As someone who's worked a lot with Bformat files and ambisonics I worked out a way to be able to fire 4 channel (or any number of channel) files and decode them using Qlab, together with Reaper, ambisonic decoders and Soundflower. I've worked out how to use ambisonics and Qlab so you can get good surround sound for the theatre.Īnyone who's used Qlab knows how great it is for the job of firing sound cues on demand.
